Poets&Quants

Covering the Top 100 Business Schools in the World

In September 2021, I joined Poets&Quants, the leading news site covering the top 100 business schools worldwide, as a senior writer and rankings editor. I interview and meet with business school deans, academics, students, and industry analysts to uncover trends shaping business education at the undergraduate, graduate, and executive levels. My work takes me across the United States and around the world — visiting campuses, attending industry events, and representing Poets&Quants while building a large network of contacts.

I write and film a weekly video podcast highlighting the must-read Poets&Quants stories of the week and host several video panels per year featuring business school program directors, students, and alumni.

As rankings editor, I manage and refine three proprietary P&Q rankings: Best Undergraduate Business Programs in the U.S., Best Online MBA Programs in the U.S., and Best MBA Entrepreneurship Programs in the World. These projects require extensive data collection and analysis for more than 200 top programs. They are read by hundreds of thousands of students each year, helping them make informed decisions about their education.

In 2023, Poets&Quants was acquired by Times Higher Education, the global authority on higher education data and insights. A sample of my work is presented below.

Best Undergraduate Business Programs in the U.S.

Poets&Quants’ undergraduate business school ranking is based on three categories that best measure the undergrad B-school experience: the quality and diversity of students enrolling in a program; a school’s ability to nurture, challenge, and grow those students; and how top employers respond to graduates entering the job market.

Since taking over the undergraduate business school ranking, I have expanded participation from 90 to 105 schools. I’ve also worked closely with business school deans and program directors to refine the methodology to best measure program impact. This project involves collecting institutional data from more than 100 programs, surveying thousands of alumni, and maintaining close contact with schools to answer data-related questions, provide updates on alumni survey progress, clarify methodological changes, and more. The 2024 ranking was read by more than 200,000 prospective business majors.

Kellogg Abroad: How MBAs Learn Real-World Impact

In March 2023, I traveled to Quito, Ecuador, with a group of MBA students from Northwestern University’s Kellogg School of Management, studying impact and sustainable ventures in a developing economy. I worked closely with a small team focused on sustainable fashion, accompanying them on project-specific meetings and fact-finding excursions.

This story highlights their visit with local seamstresses in Quito who support their families by sewing garments for Remu, a sustainable men’s fashion brand. Working from home, these seamstresses have found stable, good-paying jobs in a region facing economic hardship.

You can read a companion story about the trip here.

The P&Q Interview: ESCP’s Dean On The French B-School’s Unique Value Proposition

In September 2024, I toured three of France’s top business schools for a series of articles exploring the country’s distinctive approach to business education. The trip included a sit-down interview with Léon Laulusa, executive president and dean of ESCP Business School in Paris. One of the world’s oldest business schools, ESCP attracts students from nearly 140 countries each year.

While Poets&Quants’ reputation in the business education market allows me to speak directly with top business school deans—usually over Zoom—some details simply can’t be captured remotely. The lede of this story highlights those off-the-cuff moments that reveal the true identity of a place.

What European B-School Deans Think Of Trump’s Attacks On ESG & DEI

In February 2025, I spoke with European business school deans about the growing political backlash against ESG (environmental, social, and governance) and DEI (diversity, equity, and inclusion) in the United States—particularly former President Donald Trump’s calls to dismantle such initiatives. While ESG and DEI have become flashpoints in American politics, European institutions have largely embraced these principles as fundamental to business education.

This story explores how business schools across Europe are responding to the U.S. debate, why they remain committed to ESG and DEI, and what they see as the future of responsible leadership in a global business landscape.

More MBAs With Military Backgrounds Find Their Place At Stanford GSB

American business schools often seek military veterans for the leadership and diversity of experience they bring to their classrooms. But, several of the most elite MBA programs struggle to recruit military candidates that can make it through their highly selective admission process.

For this story, I spoke to several veterans and admission directors from Stanford Graduate School of Business—arguably the best business school in the world—to highlight the school’s efforts to raise its veteran population from 3% of enrolled MBA students to 5%.
